Drivers License Translation Amazingly Painless

Postby Phrank » Sun Nov 21, 2010 11:52 am

I needed to get my Canadian (Alberta) drivers license translated and was recommended to goto ÖAMTC http://www.oeamtc.at at: Schubertring, 1010 Wien.

I must say the experience was entirely painless and pleasant. The counter staff help right away and it cost under 8EUR to complete. Something to file away for those who are not trading in their home licenses for the Austrian variety.

Cheers,

I found the process of getting my American driver's license converted to be very painless - did it back in 2008, iirc. Two visits to the Verkehrsamt with €55 or so in cash on the second visit and it all went painlessly. Very helpful people working the counters, short lines. Not sure what you guys found so horrible about it.

I am not likely here long enough nor will I have a car to drive for the time I am here. The recommendation from my employer is to carry a translation of my license if you are not here as a tourist (e.g you have a legitimization card). If one finds themself in these circumstance - the OAMTC was painless.

Cheers,

In the USA you can get a similar document (it's regulated under a treaty, I can't remember the name, though) from all AAA offices. It costs around $25 as I call.
